iPhone 8 and iPhone X: So many smartphones Apple sells each day

How well are the iPhone 8 and iPhone X selling? Apple does not mention any official numbers. However, clear conclusions can be drawn from user numbers. But it remains a “dark figure”.

iPhone 8 and iPhone X: More than a million a day

Apple currently still sells more than a million copies of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X per day. Forbes author Chuck Jones has determined this based on user data collected by Localytics.

Localytics records the number of currently active iPhone users, and what is the share of each device. Based on the evolution of the numbers, it is possible to determine how many copies of a particular model are added in which period.

In this way, Jones has determined the “one million” value for the sum of all copies of the iPhone 8 (Plus) and iPhone X. In total, according to Localytics, 787 million iPhones are active worldwide. Two weeks after the launch of the iPhone X, its “market share” was 1.42 percent, that of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus was 1.74 and 2.36 percent.

Two weeks after the release, the iPhone 6 (Plus) was at 3.4 percent – the record to date unequaled.

However, at that time there was just the iPhone 6 (Plus) as a new model and nothing comparable with the iPhone X, so that the sum of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X shares – 5.52 percent – can be seen very well, Especially since there was also a lower number of existing iPhone users at that time, so the proportion could grow faster. However, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were already on the market for quite some time.

iPhone 8 and iPhone X: sold 50 million times

For Apple’s first fiscal quarter of 2018, which runs from October to December 2017, the absolute numbers are more interesting anyway. Apple has so far sold 17.5 million copies of the iPhone 8, 23.2 million copies of the iPhone 8 Plus and 20.7 million copies of the iPhone X.

That just the more expensive devices iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are popular, should let Apple ring only the cashier. With more than 50 million copies of all new iPhones sold, however, Apple would still be well below the official value of 78.3 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2017.

However, even the sales figures of the still available models iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 and iPhone SE are added – and the fact that some iPhones of Localytics should not even be covered: namely, those who are already ready for the Christmas tree, but just yet not activated.
