Oreo or non-Oreo – that is the only remaining question here. Because the features that Android O will bring with it, Google has already announced. Including lots of small stuff, but also some real highlights.
In all detail, the innovations of Android O are already described elsewhere. However, since small details like an optically revised setting app are mentioned in this article, this article is exclusively about the top features of the new Android version.
Android O with improved battery life
The probably most welcome change is probably what Google calls “background limits”. This means an automatic restriction of activities that run along in the background and claim the battery of the smartphone.
Thus, applications must provide a valid reason for switching and operating in the background. This is expected to result in a significantly better recharge time due to the fact that the energy consumption in standby is expected to fall drastically. However, developers must first adapt their apps.
Android O gets dormant key
Although Google has built in a series of new features for Android O notifications, but probably the most important is the “Snooze” button. This can be used to select notifications for 15, 30 or 60 minutes. This should be appropriate for every user in certain situations.
One thing Android is always said to be is fragmentation. In detail, Google has now adopted with Android O. Specifically, it is a matter of the fact that the manufacturer’s surfaces, or the launcher alternatives, which accompany them, sometimes try to push their own style.
In the new Android version, it is possible for developers to save their own icons in the end by an automatic adjustment. An app icon can now have different variants, on request for circular, square, rounded or completely arbitrary basic shapes.
Android O has window mode for videos
For regular users of mobile video playback Google has also implemented a fine innovation in Android O. And in the future, apps like YouTube can play video content in a floating window. Behind this, the currently open application can be used without any problems.
Android O wants to avoid unnecessary typing
Our last highlight feature of Android O is likely to be all happy again: Thanks to a new developer interface (API), password managers and the like can fill out system-wide forms automatically. The user is no longer required to manually type the name, e-mail, and co.
Android O is not finished yet: More features in work
Finally, it should be pointed out again that Android O is still in active development despite Developer Preview. As a result, these features may still change, or Google may build additional features.
Since Google has released a lot of functionality in the Google Apps, the Google I / O 2017, which will take place in May, is likely to provide a few extra treats for Android O.
