US Justice Department wants to force Apple to comply with the FBI

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a motion seeking to force Apple to comply with the FBI’s demands that it create a backdoor into an iPhone, according to a report.

CNBC has confirmed the DOJ filed the motion, which comes after Apple was reportedly given until February 26 to respond to a court order that it help the FBI crack an iPhone 5C used by one of the shooters in 2015’s San Bernardino terrorist attack.

Apple CEO Tim Cook staunchly refused to meet the FBI’s demands, saying a backdoor would create an unprecedented risk to Apple customers. He called the agency’s demands “chilling.”
